The Pitch

Painting of Chloe

Pegged early on in the project as "Woody Allen does 'Animal House,'" "The Pink House" is a young, sweet, razor-sharp comedy that begins as a love story in the heady, portentous days of the 1920s. During a party at the Pink House--then a girls' boarding dormitory--young students Oxford and Chloe meet, fall instantly in love, then are torn apart by fate (and Chloe's jealous fiancé). Oxford sneaks back into the Pink House late that night and performs an act so mystical that it survives, almost magically, into the future.

Seventy-two years later, we are thrown into the lives of five housemates living in the Pink House, now the only free-thinking enclave in the middle of a conservative Southern college town. We meet the seductive Zola (Spanish starlet Pilar Punzano), the ultra-intelligent Scott (NY stage actor Matt Dawson), the laconic N'Wal (newcomer Omar Scroggins), the ethereal Windy (model Natane Boudreau), and our hero Murray ("Titus" star Zack Ward). Pitted against them is the vindictive sorority next door, led by Charlotte Maddox ("Welcome to the Dollhouse" star Heather Matarazzo)--as well as the ancient school president (Gil Rogers), a man with grudges against the Pink House cultivated long, long ago.

With the clock ticking, Murray must finish his thesis on "The Ten Archetypes of Americans in their 20s" to stay in school--and the house must outsmart their teachers, their classmates, the college, and the sorority to keep the Pink House alive. Their backs against the wall, the house must dip into the past to save their future. With a student body election, huge party sequences from two different decades (the '20s scenes feature the Squirrel Nut Zippers dressed and performing in their natural milieu), cafeterias full of neo-Nazis, and condoms bursting with eggnog, it's an unpredictable, loud, unrelentingly intelligent joyride.

Shot in glorious film, eye-popping DV, and laced with the newest animation technology, "The Pink House" is mixed media with sweetness and heart.
